My wife, nine year old daughter, and I are avid chicken enthusiast and started back into our chicken hobby a year ago. We own a 20 acre farm and used to raise chickens many years ago, and have now started back into this fascinating hobby again.
This time we have focused on the rarest of chicken breeds and are excited to continue to add to our collection. We’ve converted a large portion of our 100’x40’ cattle barn into chicken habitats and each has a huge outdoor run for protection.
We do let them free roam often, but mainly from midafternoons into the evening while we can watch over them. We’ve found that in our area predators normally aggressively hunts in the early night and early mornings. We’ve never had an issue with late afternoons and evenings.
We are huge supporters of Green Fire Farms and very much appreciate everything they have done for rare poultry. They still have a few breeds we are anxiously waiting to acquire someday. |
