Retired HS math teacher with a scrubby 10A farmette in North Florida: Zebus, Nigerian Dwarf goats and, recently, chickens. Rabbits contemplated.
I have (as of Easter 2016) half-a-dozen Chocolate Cuckoo Orps, mostly Dale Fisher stock and three hatchery Buffs. Also, a few chestnut (GFF 1st run) CCLs with two Rees roos, a generic EE hen, a few ordinary BPRs, tended to by a pair of Dominique roos. and ten (left) out of a shipped baker's dozen assorted Bresse(Farms) chicks plus another two dozen of their shipped eggs.
Then, in a newly built chick run: Nine GFF Malines, three Bielefelder pullets, a trio of Rees CCLs and five hatchery Cuckoo Marans.
Add to that 40 or 50 mostly barnyard mix juvies constantly underfoot (learning incubation :/) and ... Well - 'There's never a dull moment!' Especially – I almost forgot Jonquil, my Pilgrim goose who desperately needs a gander, and Knuckles and Koochie, American Buffs.
Watch list: BBS Bresse, Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas, quality Black English Orps, BPR and Dominique hens, and PLEASE a Pilgrim gander.
Politically, I dream of a day when the chicken can cross over the road without having her motives scrutinized. |
