Ships out Monday or Tuesday!

You will receive 10 Pita Pinta Asturiana hatching eggs, plus one or two extras.

Eggs are collected daily and are stored properly to ensure freshness and improve viability. Fertilized eggs will be shipped no more than three days after they're laid and will arrive within 2-3 days of shipping. Each shipment comes with a $50 insurance policy through the USPS. Should your package be delayed or lost, you must file a claim within 30 days with the USPS. We guarantee your eggs will arrive intact and ready for incubation; however, we cannot guarantee your hatch rate. There are many factors in the shipping of fertile eggs that are just simply out of our control. As stated above, you will receive intact hatchings eggs, but it is up to you to incubate them properly.

*Extras are always available, and we'd be happy to add to your order*

Edit: At this time of year, we can only ship one dozen at any given time. If you'd like two dozen please keep in mind it will be shipped on a different date and the shipping charge will apply to both orders, thank you!

The Painted Hen

The name “Pita Pinta Asturiana” comes from the Asturian language, in which pita means hen and pinta means mottled or painted. This rare breed is the only bird native to the autonomous Austurias region of Northern Spain. It is one of the most well-preserved areas of the country, full of diverse landscape and rugged coasts. It should be no surprise that such an area, known for centuries for its agricultural proficiency, should be home to such a glorious bird. Sadly, only about 2,000 of them exist today. With that said, our primary focus is preservation! It’s a circle of sustainability that is driven largely by our efforts to keep the birds that we love for many more generations to come.

The Pita Pinta is a compact, medium sized bird, with females weighing out at 6 pounds and males at 9 pounds. Their earlobes are red, eyes orange and their skin is yellow. Many of our customers admire their black spots on their beak and legs, along with their gentle disposition making them a farm favorite. These are sizable, resilient birds that lay an abundance of cream-colored eggs.

The Pita Pinta is characterized in four color varieties, Pinta Negra (mottled black), Pinta Roxa (mottled red-brown), Blanca (white) and Abedul (black). In the Pinta Negra variety the feathers are black, edged with white, giving the characteristic mottled look. We currently have the black mottled variety available only.

If you have questions about an animal being auctioned the time to ask those questions is well before the close of the auction. Doubts, unanswered questions, second-guessing, an unanticipated or sudden change in personal circumstances, or buyer's remorse are not valid reasons for a winning bidder to refuse to pay after an auction closes.
  4. Read the text of the auction carefully before you bid. Once you bid your bid cannot be undone. Your bid is a legally binding offer to the seller, and if you are the high bidder your offer is automatically accepted and becomes a legally binding contract under which you are obligated to pay the seller.
  5. Sellers may not use other people's photos, breed descriptions, or trade names without their express written permission. Copyright violations are not allowed.
  6. Sellers must accurately describe the animal they are selling including the pedigree of the animal.
  7. When giving feedback a person must accurately describe the facts that support the feedback rating.
  8. In order to be valid, feedback must be posted by sellers within seven days after payment is due and for buyers within seven days after the birds or eggs are shipped.
  9. A person may not send profane or harassing messages about an auction.
  10. A seller advertising imported poultry must be prepared to provide a copy of the USDA import permit proving the legal importation of the poultry. Only legally imported poultry may be sold at auction.
  11. A seller or buyer may not use an auction or RBA-related tools to negotiate direct sales outside of an auction. This includes asking buyers to "gift" money via PayPal.
  12. A seller may not pre-sell hatching eggs or day-old chicks with a shipment date more than four weeks after the auction ends.
  13. This is a community. Be POLITE and courteous. If you are rude, you may be asked to leave.
  14. A seller will comply with all relevant government regulations including those related to the shipping of live birds and NPIP compliance.
