RareBreedAuctions.com is dedicated to preserving America’s rare and heritage breeds of poultry and livestock. We believe that the best way to save these breeds is to create a market for these animals where buyers and sellers can meet and bargain in a fair and professional environment facilitated by state-of-the-art technology. RareBreedAuctions.com is committed to providing that opportunity to you, the buyer or seller of rare breeds.

Other auction sites created by livestock experts have failed the test of time due to a lack of technical proficiency and poor customer service. At RareBreedAuctions.com, we specialize in raising livestock, but we also make our living in developing and maintaining customer relationships through online communication.

We are committed to building a strong and ethical community that allows members to sell and bid with confidence. We pledge to be responsive, helpful and friendly to our members and guests, and we encourage you to tell us about your experiences so that we can continuously improve our service.

We welcome you to our community and look forward to meeting your needs.

Site News

Due to long-term misue of the site by sellers not paying their auction fees, we've universally dropped the max limit to $20. If you're an active seller, in good standing (e.g. you pay your bill each month), drop us a note and we will manually adjust your level back.

As a reminder: Sellers must settle on their fees each month when invoices go out, regardless of whether you've hit your max limit.

There has been a rise recently in the number of would-be scammers, attempting to work the system. We advise members to be extra vigilant and report suspicious activity.

If you are caught trying to create additional accounts after being banned, or creating accounts with intentionally wrong infortaion (e.g. fake names, addresses or phone numbers) we will begin taking the following action:

  1. RBA will file a cyber fraud claim in your local jursdiction (yes, we can still find it, even with your fake address).
  2. RBA will file a cyber fraud claim with PayPal.
  3. RBA reserves the right to pursue scammers for legal fees and damages. You've been warned.

We work hard to facilitate a clean, safe and fair community for our members. Follow the Member Code of Conduct and everything will be just fine.

Tips for Bidding

  1. If you bid on hatching eggs, you're taking a risk. This is one of the easiest ways to scam buyers. Proceed with caution and understand the risk before you bid.
  2. If something looks too good to be true, it probably is.
  3. Do your homework. If a seller is claiming their birds come from a certain line or pedigree, check it out. All seller must have written permission from the breeder to clam lineage in their auction.
  4. Look out for fake or doctored photos.
  5. Do not engage in deals outside of RBA. Accountability aids in protection.
  6. Read reviews. This is our primary method of policing the site. If a brand new seller hits the site with really rare and/or expensive birds, proceed with caution.
  7. Do not ever "gift" money to a seller via PayPal. This may impact your ability to file for a refund through PayPal in the event of a bad transaction.

Thank you to everyone who has helped make this community great!

Freebie email providers Yahoo and Hotmail have recently increased their blocking of emails that generate from websites versus "real" email accounts. This means that much of your correspondence from RBA could get caught in your spam folder, or blocked all together. Please be sure to check that location is you're missing emails that you're waiting for. While you're at it, we recommend updating to a better, more modern, platform like Gmail.

Thanks!

When you win an auction, the seller will send you an invoice with payment instructions. Do not "credit your account" at RBA. This will not be transferable to the seller. The only recourse is for RBA to refund the money from paypal, which can take up to a week, depending on schedules.

Thanks,

Admin Team

We've receive a lot of emails lately — from bidders and sellers — on this topic. It generally goes like this:

"I was watching an auction from [SELLER] and all of the sudden it disappeared. What happened? Where did they go?!"

Members of RBA can carry a monthly balance of up to $50 by default. If exceeded, the system automatically locks down the account until the balance is retired. Rest assured, we aren't trying to sabotage anyone's auctions. That helps no one. :)

There is an easy way to mitigate this risk. As a seller, if you feel you're going to reach that balance before the end of the month — and you're in good standing with the community — just let us know. We will gladly raise the limit on your account. We want you to succeed.

If you're a bidder and you notice this, do two things: 1. let the seller know immediately and 2. let us know.

Thanks everyone. We're loving the membership growth and all thee activity. Keep it up!

Member Verification

Seller verification has existed on RBA for some time now as an optional status for sellers. Soon we will be making verification a requirement for participation on the site, for both sellers and buyers. This credential establishes accountability for members and makes it difficult to create multiple or fake accounts. In the long term, verification should improve the level of courtesy and respect among all members of the community as we continue to grow. The fee breakdown for verification is as follows:

  • Sellers: $5 annually
  • Bidders: $3 annually

We’re super excited about the activity on the site. However with the increase in membership comes an increase in people trying to work the system — it’s an unfortunate but inevitable reality. We are committed to providing the structure and safety precautions to protect buyers and sellers on the site.

Dear RBA Community:

We wanted to draft a quick note about account balances. Rather than hen peck users to death with PayPal fees (< see what I did there), we allow sellers to carry a tab on the RBA site. Sellers are billed monthly for their fees or when their balance reaches $50 — whichever comes first. Over the past year, we've played a bit fast and loose with enforcing this. However the community is large enough now that we're needing to make it more "black and white" to protect buyers, sellers and RBA.

When your account reaches $50, you'll receive an email notiication from this site. Active auctions are temporarily suspended until the account is brought back below the cap. Now, we understand that this can be a bit of an inconvenience for our "power sellers" on the site. If you are an active seller, in good standing with the community, we can (and usually will) increase the account cap for such users, to accommodate their typical selling patterns.

We appreciate your patience as we work through the kinks. These rules, while mildly inconveninent, help protect the overall community from fake/malicious poachers who are looking to prey upon members of the commuity. Unfortunately, they do exist from time to time. We have managed to do a good job — thanks to your help — in identifying them quickly and booting them to the curb. We've all worked hard to cultivate a fun, active and vibrant community. Thanks for all you do!

As always, if you have any questions, just hit us up.

Sincerely,

You Friendly Neighborhood Store Manger

Are you still using Hotmail, Yahoo or — heaven forbid — AOL for your email? It may be time to reconsider. Although to bulk of spam and malware pushed around the Internet is spoofed from one of these providers, they have developed a new tendency to block emails generated from websites — like RBA.

We've had a number of folks complain recently about not getting automated messages that are generated from the Rare Breed Auctions website. Sometimes they do not even get emails sent driectly from our administrators. Rest assured, our servers are clean and regularly check to ensure that they are not blacklisted online. There's not much more we can do, unfortunately. Please note that you can always get your RBA messages by logging into your account.

If you're having issues and wish to make a change — or simply want to upgrade your email tool, we STRONGLY encourage users to swicth to better email platform, like Google's Gmail service. You won't be disappointed.

Thanks everyone!

We've had a handful of new users win their first auction this week and promptly send payment directly to RBA. Please do not do this. While we appreciate your enthusiasm, we don't handle anything related to the transactions between seller and buyer. We simply provide the platform.

When you win an auction, the seller will forward you an invoice, typically within 24 hours. They should message you with their PayPal information, if they're not using direct payment. If not, or if you have general questions, you may contact the seller via the green "Message Board" link on your "Items I've Won" page.

Thanks.

Effective immediately, RBA has disabled the bid retraction feature. This tool was meant to provide an "out" for bids placed in error and/or to help protect sellers from deadbeat bidders. However the feature has been abused in recent weeks, affecting the closing sale prices of some auctions.

Please be aware: Bidding on an auction represents a contractual agreement between the seller and the buyer. Bid carefully and proof-read your information before submitting. We will not retract your bid for you. We cannot interfere with the auctions, for obvious ethical reasons.

Deadbeat buyers will be banned from the site. We have all worked hard to build a thriving community here at RBA. If everyone plays nicely, we all benefit. Thanks for your support.

All new member registrations must now be manually approved by an RBA administrator.

After registering, you will receive a message requesting confirmation from your email account on file. You will then be approved and activated on the site. We apologize for the extra hassle, but must protect the integrity of the site and our members.

Do not use a proxy server to access RBA. Ever. There is no legitimate reason to do this. If you are caught attempting to mask your identity or location while using the site, you account will be banned. We are currently investigating the incident where someone created a fake account and artificially bid on all of the site auctions on April 17th (This person enaged in similar activities on a number of the other poultry auction sites.). These actions constitute fraud and if the perpetrator is identified, we will consider all legal options at our disposal. This is a legitimate and ethical auction community and we will not tolerate this type of activity.

Thank you everyone for your patience and understanding.

RBA Member Code of Conduct

Updated: May 28, 2015
This website is a service intended to benefit our country's livestock and the people who raise it. In order for this community to thrive and achieve our mission, its necessary that all registered members adhere to a Code of Conduct that ensures fair trade. By registering as a member you agree to abide by our Code of Conduct, and any violations of the Code of Conduct will result in being banned from this site and such other legal action as may be required. The Code of Conduct is as follows:

  1. A person may not create multiple accounts.
  2. A seller may not bid on his or her own auction and may not coordinate with family and friends to do so.
  3. A winning bid creates a legally binding contact, and winning bidders are required to pay the seller. If you have questions about an animal being auctioned the time to ask those questions is well before the close of the auction. Doubts, unanswered questions, second-guessing, an unanticipated or sudden change in personal circumstances, or buyer's remorse are not valid reasons for a winning bidder to refuse to pay after an auction closes.
  4. Read the text of the auction carefully before you bid. Once you bid your bid cannot be undone. Your bid is a legally binding offer to the seller, and if you are the high bidder your offer is automatically accepted and becomes a legally binding contract under which you are obligated to pay the seller.
  5. Sellers may not use other people's photos, breed descriptions, or trade names without their express written permission. Copyright violations are not allowed.
  6. Sellers must accurately describe the animal they are selling including the pedigree of the animal.
  7. When giving feedback a person must accurately describe the facts that support the feedback rating.
  8. In order to be valid, feedback must be posted by sellers within seven days after payment is due and for buyers within seven days after the birds or eggs are shipped.
  9. A person may not send profane or harassing messages about an auction.
  10. A seller advertising imported poultry must be prepared to provide a copy of the USDA import permit proving the legal importation of the poultry. Only legally imported poultry may be sold at auction.
  11. A seller or buyer may not use an auction or RBA-related tools to negotiate direct sales outside of an auction. This includes asking buyers to "gift" money via PayPal.
  12. A seller may not pre-sell hatching eggs or day-old chicks with a shipment date more than four weeks after the auction ends.
  13. This is a community. Be POLITE and courteous. If you are rude, you may be asked to leave.
  14. A seller will comply with all relevant government regulations including those related to the shipping of live birds and NPIP compliance.

Thank you for participating in our community. Happy selling and bidding! If you have questions, comments or concerns, please email the store manager.
